Tea, Science, Sledding and Bowling

We had a jammed packed week.

First, a fairy tea in anticipation of Alaska Dance Theatre's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

We brought friends too.  There was fairy crafts, fairy sandwiches and delicious tea cakes.

And they got to watch a rehearsal.

But most popular was the photo shoot backdrop...

where the fairies joined in after the rehearsal.

Seriously, how many fairies can you fit on a fairy backdrop??

Right after our fairy tea we headed back home where we had to work on our science fair project.

The following Tuesday...it was showtime.

Unfortunately, we still don't know how we did!  Will keep you posted.

We had fun in the snow one afternoon with neighbors...until the moose showed up.

Amelia was behind me in a flash.   We ended up venturing back out after the two meandered down the mountain.

Lastly, we had a bowling birthday party to attend.  Although she did pretty well, it was the agony of defeat on this turn.

We are off to Disneyland shortly.  Lots to post I am sure.

Be My Valentine...

Seems like we had lots of people whom we wanted to make Valentine's for this year, but there was one Amelia wanted to be extra special...her teacher.

These porcelain oil pens baked onto a dish are great for little guys who want a gift that is more than just the norm.  You can erase easily with alcohol, until you get it perfect!  Then you put into cold oven and set temp to 350 for 30 min and then let completely cool in oven.

After we made this, Amelia said what else are we going to do? Hmmm.  My sister-in-law made me a gorgeous recipe box for Christmas filled with a few of my husband's family recipes.  I loved it and asked her how she made it.  Pinterest of course!  So, I bought a few boxes thinking I would make a few eventually.  No time like the present!

Since I didn't want to use my grandma's silverware, I headed to a local antique/thrift store and picked up a few I liked for $2 each.  The boxes I bought at Michael's unfinished.  Had some cherry stain on hand and just did a bit of sanding.  I bought a glass/metal glue (it's like crazy glue...use gloves :) to secure the spoon.

Then we went to work on recipes.  Desserts more like...after all it is Valentine's Day.  Amelia LOVES  (almost as much as her teacher) a show on Amazon called "Just Add Magic" (based on the book of same name) about a magical cookbook, that has recipes like "Keep 'Em Quiet Cobbler" ... so we made our recipe cards of a few of Amelia's FAVORITE desserts ... with that in mind.

We packed both her handmade gifts, along with other "teacher" goodies in a basket and went to work on her fellow classmate valentines.

I picked up little crayons stacked on top of one another in the party area of Target.  Amelia received one from a friend not too long ago and I thought they were adorable, so when I saw them, I thought PERFECT.  Along with a notepad and a couple candies...we were done.  Uh no.  Amelia wanted to make something for each of them.  Good gracious.

Last Christmas she received a Beado set from her friend and still creates from time to time, so she said she was going to make a beado for everyone.  A heart beado at that.  After a bit of creating...we made the perfect size and picked out colors of Valentine's Day.  She made a couple...I made the rest (it takes a bit of concentration).   We packed them in a tiny Valentine envelopes that came with paper heart confetti of all sizes in them.  I bought them at Michael's on clearance a few years ago....SEE, I do use all those things I throw in my cart...thinking I will use them eventually...for something...anything!

Valentine's Day goodies...complete!

We used the same old-fashioned Valentine's that we gave last year to go along with the goody bag.  These were the left overs that weren't so cute as others.  More are shown HERE.

We also made a goody bag for our dance friends and neighbors that I didn't photograph, but were filled with hair ties and things they would use, along with candies and toys.

Now it was time for Valentine's morning!

We have a Valentine Advent that I made last year.  You can see that HERE.  We opened that daily and filmed it as Amelia LOVES the kid Youtube channels of kids (and grown ups too) opening and playing with toys.  She wanted her own YouTube channel, so I made one for her and posted daily of her opening her Advent.  You can find her channel HERE under Amelialand...and oh please subscribe :)  She would ask you herself ... trust me.  hahaha.   We didn't film the morning, but after school she went thru each of her gifts.  Quite funny, trust me.  Valentine's Day morning was just me armed with my camera...for photos that is.

Since Dad was already at work, we propped up my phone and Facetimed him in so he could enjoy the openings as well.  She showed him each gift...up close.

She really wanted a play doh dentist set (no doubt, seen on kids youtube) and immediately wanted to get started on it before school.  Naturally.

I am not liking those cavities!  You can add braces too.

Rob and I exchanged funny gifts and we ate a bacon wrapped petit sirloin for dinner and a glass of wine, while Amelia wanted a hot dog with mac and cheese.  I did say she could have anything she wanted on Valentine's day.  Of course, the day ended with a Valentine cake that I completely forgot to take pics of.   Oh well.

We are getting ready for our trip to Disneyland, but before that we have a Midsummer's Night Tea Party to attend to AND a Science Fair to enter!

A Bit of Valentines and a Tea

Had to beg for a photo shoot so I could send out Valentine cards.  I had to be quick.

We ended up with this.

On occasion we let Amelia watch the kids app of youtube.  She gets inspired and sets up stories with her Barbies and takes photos and videos of them with the little cannon camera I gave her.  She thinks her photos are better than mine.  I haven't downloaded the latest, but will and post here :)

Forgot to post our after school tea party we had a couple weeks back complete with marmalade and butter sandwiches.

All her American Girl dolls were there.

It was fancy...

and delicious.

Lastly, we had crazy hair day last week.  She wanted pink ends with sparkles.  I told her that is more beautiful than crazy...she replied "exactly" "Mom, I am not into crazy."  Thank goodness.

More about Valentine's prep next.
