Quick Trip to Homer, AK

We headed to Homer for a quick trip this week, leaving right after Amelia finished school for the 4 and a half hour car ride.  Rob needed to be up early for the fishing boat, but we had to go throw a few rocks in Katchemak Bay before heading to bed. We have been here several times...you can see a couple of those visits HERE and HERE.

While Rob went fishing...we headed for breakfast.

We stayed at the Lands End Resort, where you view Kachemak Bay while having breakfast.

Amelia loves strolling the beach, so we hurried outside for a LOOONNG adventure stroll.

Had to find 25 or so rocks to bring back home for an art project for her classmates and teachers...no better place to find them!

Everything from sticks, rocks and kelp apparently had to go back in the water.  Good luck with that.

After a quick wash up and check out of the hotel, we headed out for a bit of shopping on the spit.  The Lands End Resort is located at the end of Homer Spit, a long narrow piece of land jutting out 4.5 miles into Kachemak Bay.  The spit is dotted with small shops, coffee and has entrances to the fishing docks.

It was kinda quiet. Memorial Day weekend would be quite different.

Then we headed to The Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies that has a coastal trail you can walk.  We had heard that there was a fantastic bakery that you could walk to called the Two Sisters Bakery...of course, we had to go.   Unfortunately, I didn't get pics...only video for a post on Amelia's Youtube channel...Amelialand.  That will be published soon and include our whole adventure to Homer.

Right after our "lunch" of a brownie and cheesecake (we were still stuffed from breakfast), we got a call from Rob that they had reached their limit and were heading in.  Just enough time for a quick walk thru inside the center.

We headed to the docks to find Dad's boat.

Amelia had to shake off what she said was the scariest thing ever...walking down the ramp to the docks...it was STEEP.

Salmon and halibut for the catch of the day.  Had to leave it with his friends to freeze up and bring back home...as after a quick stop into the famous Salty Dawg Saloon where fishermen have to go and talk of the day's catch (and Amelia had a glass of water)...we needed to head to Soldotna (about an hour away) so we could go swimming and be a bit closer to head home the next morning ... just in time for a 1/2 day of school.

Amelia made her mark.

Back home just in time for Saturday's Dance Rehearsal and Sunday's Performance.  That...coming next.
