Pumpkin Carving, The First Snow and Halloween Decorating

We had a busy Sunday.  First carving the pumpkin and then playing in the first snow of 2018 ... late for Alaska that is for sure!

First she drew her design ... she insisted it be traditional.

Then she carved.  This was her first attempt!  She did a bit and realized it wasn't as easy or as fun as it looked...so I got to finish up.

The reveal is always alarming.

Time to dig...

and dig.

Until you have a cleaned out pumpkin!

We both thought it resembled one of our favorite books....

While we were carving pumpkins...the snow began to fall outside.

By the time we were finished...there was enough to break out the sled!

It has been tradition that we head outside for the very first snow fall (luckily it has happened on the weekend since she began school a few years ago).  We do three things...a bit of sledding,  make snowmen and a snow angel.

Check, check check!

Awhile ago I promised I would only post of any new Halloween decorating I did as it is pretty much the same each year.  I like tradition and everyone seems to expect my mummy head and scaredy cat to be out!  However, I did add a couple new things...

... branches from outside around artwork around the house.

A potion book.  Amelia and I have been adding to this since we made it, after being inspired by the Amazon show Just Add Magic.  I am sure when the new season comes out, we will add a few more recipes!

I had these gold frames I picked up at a yard sale a few years ago and have used them here and there for decorations.  I found a few creepy witch pics on line and I must say they are very festive!  The pumpkins are ones Amelia made a few years ago and the black topped display in the back holds all our Halloween Minifigure Collection that I pull out every October.

Lastly,  our chalkboard for Halloween 2018!

Trick or treating adventures soon!

The Annual Halloween Playdate

Our annual Halloween playdate for three of Amelia's friends (and their brothers) begins the season's festivities for us.

This year was an easy costume choice...Mal from the Descendants.  Malificent's daughter in the Disney show.

Amelia has just learned to whistle properly and hard to make her stop for a photo.

Decorations of tombstones and spiderwebs greeted our guests.  Left the decaying plants for realism 😏

And Halloween eats awaited them inside...like Deviled Eggs (literally)....

and a cheese and cracker tray (crackers are off to the side) ...

 a Spider Taco Dip...

and apples and pears with yogurt honey.

We had Mummy Dogs, Mummy Pizza and the best Monster Spaghetti a witch could ask for...

and two devilish desserts of Baked Donuts and a Pumpkin Tart with a Chocolate Crust.

There were games too...

Spiderweb egg (cotton balls) throw and ...

Chopstick Candy Corn Run and of course...

Mummy wrap to name a few.

All for a chance to put your hand in the cauldron and pick out a prize!

A photo session and play outside ended the day...

Until next Halloween.

Two weeks of Halloween left!  Stay tuned.
