Let The Projects Begin

I have been totally inspired by a blog I found, Dear Lillie.  Even as a kid, whenever I watched a show or saw something to make or do in a magazine, I had to make it IMMEDIATELY.   I am sure this drove my mom nuts, as Amelia has that same quality about many things.

So...

There was a dresser.

I really didn't like.  I was about to throw it out.

Thought it wouldn't hurt to paint it seeing that I was going to toss it.

I was heading to Lowe's for some decking (will update that soon) and strolled thru the paint aisle for a sample of paint for my dresser, where I found a quart of chalk paint...and a cream miss tint for $2.50 ... oh yes, that'll do!

Quick almost forgot the before picture!

Prime it.

 First coat.

Spray handles with the free paint our neighbors gave us when they moved.  (Still at a $2.50 makeover)

Prime and paint drawers.

And we have a new dresser.

I doubt now I will ever get rid of it :)  It is a solid dresser that was given to us by our friends Dora and Bob when we first moved in and probably why I thought trying to save it was a good thing.

$2.50 total.  And of course $1,000 for my time :) :P  I did most of the painting/priming in the morning when Amelia was still asleep (my favorite time to work on projects) and  while she was eating breakfast and lunch.  I painted and chatted ... chatted and painted.  hahaha.

If that were not all we did this week ... remember the chalk paint?

I will do a post on that next time :)  Gosh I love having a helper!

A bit of background on this project:  I am searching for a china cabinet or something for our dining room, when that happens I am taking down the cabinets that are above this counter...opening up the kitchen to the living room and dining room.  This wall bugged me and was going to just spray texturing and paint it the cream that is thru the house.  Then I remembered a neighbor did this to her counter bottom and thought it looked great.   I figured in a few years when Amelia could care less about chalk we can either take this cupboard paneling down, sheet rock or just texture / paint over the chalk paint.  Again..more to come :)

I also picked up a couple items at a garage sale.  The frame was free (the guy wanted to get rid of it).  The pic is one I had taken at Picture Innovations when we were back East a couple years ago.  The whole package was $10 ... so why not?

The sleigh was $1 and I used the rest of the paint from my raspberry sign I showed in my last post and some black paint for lettering.  Will be putting that upstairs in the Christmas box :)

Since the cottage remains inside (Amelia is not liking the idea of putting it out where mosquitos are plentiful), and is quite often a "bakery", I made her a sign that can change as easily as her mind.

Where are those dang dragonflies...we need them to eat the mosquitos!

Speaking of chalk...

She's getting better.

It has been a glorious Spring...even tempting me to put the plants out, but I am afraid I will jinx it.

Next week...more chalk projects :)
