Table...sold. :) Who doesn't love Craigslist?!
This is what it looked like to those perusing on Craigslist.
and here is the story...
I bought this table when Rob's brother, sister, kids, mother and aunt were up visiting in 2005. Rob had just finished our shaker table and we had yet to buy any chairs. I picked up the table and four chairs as I needed a temporary desk as well. I used it as a desk all the way up to a year ago, when Rob replaced his desk and I used his as it was smaller and I was now scrunched in a corner of the upstairs playroom :)
So...this is what it ended up looking like with Amelia's help and this was after a brief sanding when I realized I better take a pic :) This kid loves stickers.
I sanded ... sanded and sanded.
And sanded some more.
Then I took it into the garage and asked Rob to park outside for a few days :)
I dug in our paint and stain cubby and decided on this for the top. I wanted to make it look a bit different than the others I saw on Craigslist...with a more farm table top look.
I used one coat as I really didn't have all that much stain and certainly didn't want to spend anything more.
There were sides to the table that I sanded, sanded and sanded too, but there were no stickers on them. Put a coat of stain on them as well.
Then I broke out the poly. I used brush on first, but didn't like the thickness and we had a bottle of rub on polyurethane that worked much better. Three coats on top and two on the underside and sides.
The legs were in great shape so all I did was take a 220 grit sand paper to any small dings and then coated in the rub on poly..worked like a charm.
Viola a nearly new very sturdy table. The lady picked it up last night for a craft table. Sold for $100. I bought the table and 4 chairs for that nearly 10 years ago. We are keeping the chairs as they are so sturdy. Amelia has one at her desk that I want to paint and we have one in the kitchen for her to use to stand on to help. If her desk chair turns out nice, I'll paint all of them :)
So, Rob has his garage back for now. Still looking for the perfect china cabinet to paint cream colored to give the dining room a bit of cottage feel. No wood as we have so much brown wood in the dining/kitchen and living room. Well, unless we get a cherry piece that is stunning ;)
Like I said..I have projects and projects. Finished a little one too this week.
I purchased the above piece of junk for 25 cents from a garage sale for Amelia as she loves to play airplane and pack her luggage. It was pink and intended for a DS system and had black foam inside (forgot to take a pic of that...I get way too excited when I start a project and forget to take the initial pics). I tore out the foam and had some scrap fabric that would be perfect to line the inside. She could use it for her sewing supplies (that are growing) if not in use for packing for an airplane...apparently she has flown too many times.
I cut a cereal box to fit the bottom and sides, making them smaller than actual as the fabric would take up some room. Used spray fabric glue (awesome stuff but use gloves unless you want your fingers to be sticky for a day or two) and glued the fabric to the cardboard then after drying a bit sprayed the now fabric/cardboard to the box itself.
Amelia loves it. EXCEPT she asked if I could change it to purple instead of blue. No, sorry.
Did all of this in the morning before she woke up. That is the kind of project I love!
Still working on the "secret" projects for the nieces (one had to be redone yet again!) and took a few pics of the flowers/greenery around the house for next time. Have a couple new rhubarb desserts and work on the house should be beginning this week from the contractors that did the siding two years ago...will tell that long story another time.
A post is not complete without Amelia...
