The Winter Woodlands Birthday Party

Hard to believe she is 5.

When she said she wanted a "Winter" party a couple months ago, I immediately thought..."oh Frozen" and kinda thought ugh as there are so many Frozen parties out there!  Then she said "I want to be a wolf and a fairy."  Huh?  Then I realized she was getting the idea from a favorite movie "The Secret of Kells" ...oh yes...this I could do!  She then decided she wanted to be an arctic fox instead.  Great....and she loves our woods ... how about "Winter Woodlands"...and let's make it a magical Winter Woods!  :)  Done.

One of Amelia's favorite books is "When it Starts to Snow" by Phillis Gershator.  We purchased a paperback at a garage sale for about 10 cents and it has been a favorite ever since.  So, I contacted the author who happened to have a hard copy she could sign.  She didn't have that many, as I thought it would be a great Thank You gift for her young guests.  When I told her I would buy a few on Amazon, she sent along a note to include in each book....almost a signed copy :)

Each received a thank you scroll and an arctic fox ornament.  All the kids received a slew of other goodies for game prizes that I didn't get pictures of in "Ask the Arctic Fox" :)

The fox emerging from her den...

We barely have any snow.  It trickled down the day before giving the dusting I was hoping for!

I bought the felt mask on Etsy and had the dress.  Made a fox tail that I attached to the back.

Almost time...

Appetizers of Mouse cheese and Squirrel Crackers, Olives, Bacon Wrapped Asparagus Trees, Nuts and Tree Bark (chips) with salsa :)

Forest Wraps with a delicious Tortellini Soup in the soup tureen and crusty bread.  Macaroni and Cheese and jelly Glazed Tree stumps for the kids (Little Smokies).

And berries on a stick.

And of course...the cake.

The cake is the only think I don't make ... as it would take a lot of time and THAT I usually don't have when putting a party together.  I gave EXPLICIT instructions to the bakery and I put the figures on that were all washed in the dishwasher.  I then bought some chevron designed candles that I scratched off to make them look like birch trees...5 of them :)

I love this pic...and they all complained of a their stomachs hurting after.

Time for presents.

There was a little piece of candy that her friend Zoie wrapped up for an extra special gift for Amelia.  It took forever to open :)

Initially, Amelia wanted only girls at her party.  No one else.  She said this last year too, but I figured that was the last year I could dictate who she invited.  I told her that was fine, but that would REALLY limit her guests....I suggested maybe those with little brothers too?  She agreed.  Then I slipped in a couple family friends and a party it was!  One of her close buddies, who also has a little brother) came down with strep, so she was missing a few faces.

A great party was had and a day to rest to her actual birthday on Tuesday.  More presents and bowling of course!

Then...DISNEYLAND!
