It rained ... Eagle River Nature Center it is!
I have said many times here on the blog how much Amelia and I love this place...rain or shine. There is quite a bit of construction on the road leading to the center, but worth it for a hike...or perhaps an animal sighting. Amelia and I have seen bear and moose and Liz claimed she saw a wolf on the drive in, however, I am thinking coyote...but hey I sure could be wrong.
After a brief look around the small "hands on" education room we have been notified that a moose is down by the salmon look out area! A reminder our trek by the airport yielded no such sighting...this could be what we have been looking for.
Run Ryan Run!
Bingo!
We headed back and stopped at the "Witches's Tree", properly named as the Witch during the Center's Halloween Walk is housed here. You can read about that adventure here. It was all fun and games until a bee wanted in.
Since we pretty much ran thru the trail hunting for the moose, Liz and Ryan decided to hike the Four Corners trail and meet us back at the center. Amelia, Andrea and I opted to go thru the Rodak trail once more and this time stop at the Beaver Viewing Deck and check out the Education Yurt. Apparently, a black bear was spotted earlier in the day, so we kept a good eye out and made lots of noise...as I really only wanted to see one from a distance. Amelia and I saw one the year prior where you can read about here. Here is a link to the trails. http://www.ernc.org/documents/trailmapFLIP_003.pdf
We returned back to the house, where Ryan and Liz prepared for an adventure of brewery hop sampling and Andrea, Amelia and I went to the 6th Avenue Mall for a bit of birthday shopping for Andrea, Banana Republic for me and Crazy 8's for Amelia...complete with coffee for me, strawberry creme Frappuccino for Andrea...that Amelia shared in, as her chocolate milk was not as tasty.
We all met up at the Bear Tooth for dinner. Amelia was exhausted waiting an hour, but had a second wind when we actually were sat at the table.
Headed home for a game of Memory and Apples to Apples, then to bed for an early rise to get to Whittier, AK and thru the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel for a Prince William Sound Cruise. Ohhh I hope I played this right in canceling the tour for Thursday and rescheduling for Friday...please please please weather...cooperate!
