Believe it or not this was our first family vacation...just Rob, Amelia and I.
Us and Disneyland.
We flew a red eye, direct on Alaska Air.
Then used Limo.com to book a car to take us to the Disneyland Hotel. It was effortless and so nice not to worry about driving, taxis or buses to get us from the airport. We used this service last time and for the cost...well worth it!
Since we had a large group two years ago, a condo was very economical, but since it was just us, The Disneyland Hotel was our choice...the iconic place to stay. We dropped off our luggage and did a bit of shopping then headed to lunch at Goofy's Kitchen, one of the character dining options, located right in the hotel. It was everything Amelia expected it to be ... and more!
Checked off Goofy and Minnie right off the bat!
Then enjoyed one of many birthday desserts.
We headed to the heated pool once we checked in, but made it an early night to catch up on our sleep and be ready for our first day at Disneyland.
We were first at the gates. Guests of any of Disneyland Hotels get an "Extra Magic Hour" each day during their stay and we took FULL advantage of it.
We were ready!
First stop ... RIDES! Teacups and Nemo's submarine to name a few.
Then on to Toontown ...
...where we bumped into a slew of characters, including this guy.
Last visit we watched "Frozen" at the Storytelling Royal Theatre. Amelia absolutely loved it, so I wanted to make sure we caught their "Beauty and the Beast" this time round. Amelia sat front row center on a rug for the kids and Rob and I settled on a bench :) The show was hilarious. We caught their version of "Tangled" later on, but watched from outside the actual theatre.
You can see Amelia's ears in this pic:
On my lists of "musts" was a silhouette of Amelia by a Disney artisan. We had her name painted during the last trip and missed the silhouette as the line was hours long. This time I would wait no mater how long it took!
Disney is expensive, but there are hidden treasures...like this one. A one of a kind, handmade work of art for....$9.99. Yes, you heard that right. I opted for the one of a kind Disney frame too...another $20, but what a keepsake! I absolutely love it. We waited about 15 minutes, if that. Amelia wasn't overjoyed about sitting there, but she was rewarded with ... ice cream :)
This is what brain freeze looks like.
She recovered and we headed to Critter Country...
and met these two...
and climbed Tarzan's tree house...
for fantastic views.
It was nearing dusk and time for the fantastic Main Street Electrical Parade!
We opted for room service pizza and went straight to bed...happily exhausted after day 1.
Next time...Part 2.
