It’s a wonderful life...
Christmas at our house began the day after Halloween. Since we would be leaving at the end of November, I had to make sure we got to enjoy our tree and Christmas prep! I wasted no time in buying Amelia a santa hat and antlers :) While teaching and owning a dance school for 12 + years, I have acquired MANY ornaments that are always packed safely away in their original boxes each year. I explained to her that Mommy’s ornaments (and Daddy’s trains) are not to be touched. Amelia had other notions...her eyes and her sticky little hands were on all the ballerinas with frilly tutus and stopping the train while in motion was her favorite Christmas activity. Sigh...all those years of keeping things in order. I’ll take the disorder of course :)
Ameila and I left Anchorage on Nov. 29th and headed to Syracuse. Even though we had a 6 hour layover in Chicago she did great. The day we arrived it was raining, by evening it was sleeting, by the end of the week we had 42 inches of snow. Great. Not to mention Don was in Turkey, the snow blower broke and Bonnie got the Suburban stuck at the end of the driveway (no worries..I have it on video for next years DVD!) We did squeeze in The Nutcracker too. It was a 7:00pm showing and I figured Amelia would be out the minute the lights went out...not so! SHE LOVED IT. Thought all the clapping was for her :)
Rob flew into Ohio and we headed down in a one way rental car, stopping to have lunch with Liz at Applebee’s on what seemed to be the only nice day to drive (LUCKY!!). Amelia only cried a short time so it wasn’t bad at all.
We brought the snow with us and met up with Daddy in Ohio and had a great time with Natalie, Oma and Opa at Natalie’s Christmas Skating show, shopping with Grammy, Christmas with Grammy and Grandpa Art and then another Christmas with the Guisingers! It was Christmas, Christmas, Christmas! A great dinner and visit with the Mallorys was also had!
Rob, Amelia and I headed back to Syracuse after almost 2 weeks in Ohio. Just in time for the MOST museum with Donna and Andrea, christmas cookie making, church on Christmas Eve, and of course Christmas Day at the Wierbinski’s with an extra 2 people (Rob and Amelia). The MORE THE MERRIER! We found an evening to meet up with friends Sarah and Beth, Dave, Arden and Sam at Syracuse’s famous DInosaur Barbeque. Packed as usual, it’s the Flintstone’s paradise of deliciousness :)
Rob headed back to Ohio and most of the Wierbinski’s , Amelia and I headed to the Gingerbread Gallery with lunch at Arby’s (tradition and a first fast food for Miss Amelia).
It was a great vacation and wonderful holiday for all of us. Amelia and I flew out of Syracuse and Rob flew out of Columbus and we all met in Chicago for our uneventful flight back home. It was good to get home to our own bed too.
We had our Christmas the next day, but I think Amelia was done with everything christmas. Although, she did love her riding horse that Santa had left her. Now every day Rob and I have to ride her around the house. Sigh, thanks Santa.
Amelia is now quite mobile, “walking” around the whole house (all she needs is a finger on something to move from one object to the next). We have baby proofed all cupboards except the ones that are hers to get into. She loves the pantry, her matchbox cars, zhu zhu pet, and of course anything Elmo. Eating pretty much everything we do now, but especially loves toast, fish crackers and cheerios with bananas.
Where has the time gone?
Up next: the first birthday party! Let the festivities begin!!!
