The long red-eye plane trip wasn’t too bad except Amelia now likes to spread out when she is sleeping. Thankfully, a minor league baseball team was on the plane and one was sitting next to me who had a little sister and loved kids. She kicked him quite a few times poor guy. Other than that she did ok.
We arrived at the Wierbinski’s, Amelia with a piece of cake in her hand from Bonnie who picked us up...nice bribe. We took full advantage of the warm weather and headed for the little swimming pool so Amelia could try out her new suit. Conor and Calleigh came over and she reunited with them. She loves Conor, but he would rather she stay away...hahaha. The next day we headed to Alex’s graduation. Alex heads off to Fredonia (is this a Wierbinski tradition???) in August. I thought Amelia would be squirrelly, but she enjoyed herself.
Strawberry picking was next, but Amelia missed it by sleeping in the car. The most fun: bee in the car and animal cracker antics that only Andrea and I can laugh about. An evening of toasting marshmellows followed with Amelia tasting her first s’mores! Was SOOOO glad that we got to go to the Gillie lake fireworks!!! The first bang had her staring at me as if it was the beginning of an earthquake and why wasn’t I grabbing her and running???? The subsequent bangs she didn’t mind so much. GT is all I have to say Wierbinski crew...GT.
The following weekend was the big graduation bash. Wierbinski’s House of Bounce was hopping. Bonnie showing off the barn that had yet to include any horses. That day came a couple days after the party. Moose and his buddy Grey Bear / Baby Bear (I really don’t know the horses name now) arrived to much fanfare. Amelia at first was cautious but willing to pet Moose until...he neighed in her face. She now hates horses and won’t go near them.
After a trip to Baltimore Woods, peeling wallpaper and cleaning Andrea’s room, visits from Chelsea and Sarah, Skaneateles with Liz and Andrea then Donna and Andrea, swimming at Katies pool, Baby shower planning, baseball, football and Gillie Lake walks... Amelia and I headed South to meet up with Rob/Dad in Ohio. We stopped to meet Lauren, John and Miss Gwen in Buffalo for lunch which was a great break from the road! Hadn’t met John or Gwen and was so glad we got a chance...will have to do that more often!
We arrived to a pig roast at Uncle Dave and Aunt Brenda’s and upon seeing her father...Amelia cried. Took her a bit to remember.. “OOOOHHHH DADDDD...Now I know who you are!” 2 weeks is a long time in the memory of a one year old...poor Rob.
We spent time with Grammy and Grandpa Art and had a hike in the Mohican, we played with Aunt Natalie, Oma and Opa. THEN we went to the lake where Amelia got to meet her Aunt Mary and Uncle Jerry, cousin Jacob and Jonah for the first time!
First we were on Grandpa’s sailboat. It was a warm day with no breeze, but Amelia loves water of any kind! She got sleepy and took a nap, but loved being around her cousins. We headed to the pool at the marina where Amelia again enjoyed the water. A true summer picnic with hot dogs (her very favorite food) and burgers awaited us with pizza that night....does it get any better than that for a kid? After another day of playing and frolicking with Grandpa, Oma and Natalie we headed to Grammy and Grandpa Art’s boat. (WOW lots of boating.)
We all boated down to middle bass for lunch and more frolicking in the wading pool there. Aunt Barb joined us too! You would think we Alaskan’s would be fried by now...but actually only Rob, Amelia and I loaded up on spf 100 :) She had a light tan, but nothing more. She really did need some vitamin D.
Back to middle Ohio after much fun on the water and boats. We had a grand weenie roast (again...Amelia was in heaven with all the hot dogs) at Grammy and Grandpa Art’s and Aunt Joan arrived! So good to see everyone ... and in one place!
We headed to St. Peter’s Carnival where Aunt Natalie and Oma were working a booth! I won her a giraffe back pack and Natalie won her a pink pig that we now call “Bacon Burger” :) It was a sad day to say goodbye to the Bellians, Moores and Guisingers, not to mention DAD, when Amelia and I headed back North.
Amelia has done great during the car rides but she began with an hour of crying non stop. After that hour ... she was great. Stopped at McDonald’s for our First Happy Meal! She loved it.
Back at the Wierbinski’s, we celebrated Andrea’s 12th birthday...with a lunch at Friendlys with soon to be mom Katie, then a party back at the house. Then Andrea and I began making the decorations for the shower, finishing making a couple gifts for Olivia and starting to cook. Ninety degree day and 40 people coming. EEK. A glorious spread of food that both Liz and Andrea helped me with . I think Andrea PURPOSEFULLY didn’t remind me of the Alaskan smoked salmon that I brought for the party as she loves the stuff and wanted to keep if for herself.
Party went better than I thought. Katie got TONS and I mean TONS of stuff.
Olivia is bound to be as spoiled as Amelia.
After more swimming, shopping, and horse watching, we said our goodbyes to Hercules, Hazel, Rosie and Rudy and the rest of the Wierbinskis on a 95+ day and headed for cool AK. Flight was uneventful with people saying how good amelia was. Another successful trip of traveling for her.
Will be back at Christmas!
