We ventured to Independence Mine at Hathcher’s Pass in June. Yes, June. All the pics show a cold and blustery place...but I assure you it was June. Down below was a sunny, warm day, but high above was crisp and cool! Thank goodness I brought 2 coats for Amelia! She absolutely loved it. Hiking up on the paved path with Dad, then being carried while we hiked up and up to the famous rock. This rock is now known as “Our Rock” as every visitor gets a chance to get a photo op on it! Have included some visitor pics in the photo albums so make sure you take a look. Think it really depends on the day and the weather as June, July and August have had their pros and cons for the past 8 years!
We headed to the Independence Mine eatery after our hike (famous on Mythbusters episode about sleep deprivation). Had a wonderful lunch, but it amazes me they can whip up meals way up there! Then I think...oh right they LIVED UP HERE! :) First time I went there to eat was during Sarah and her mom, Stephanie’s visit and said “WOW all the times I have come up there and passed this by!?!” Don’t get me wrong...it’s not a 5 star. However, the atmosphere (and should I even mention the view?) is surely inviting after a hike up to the mine. Maybe that is why I like it...I am usually starving by the time we get there so naturally anything tastes good.
Oh...we didn’t find any gold :( ... this time :)
